If you are anywhere near the Bay Area and looking for a great instructor, don’t miss this chance to learn from John at his upcoming workshop. He is among the best.

For years I looked for an instructor who had a logical and organized approach to teaching steel that made sense. I tried learning scales, I tried learning licks, I tried learning songs. I ended up memorizing tab, but I never understood what I was playing or why.

Then I ran across John. I’ve been taking lessons in person and online (Skype) and finally I’m learning how to “think” pedal steel. Yes he covers all the basics: scales, theory, progressions, positions, but he does it in a well thought out, step by step process that will have you playing, rather than mimicking, steel in no time.

I can’t say enough. If you can make this event, do it. You won’t regret it.

Oh, yeah — it’ll be fun, too!

Hey John, just wanted to thank you for a great class. It took me untill I was well on my way driving home from the class to realize how much I had picked up in the course of the 5-6 hours we had.I have a great direction for study that bypasses much of the riff driven learning that is so easy to fall into, and focusing more on a much broader veiw to learning. I have to tell you how important that realization is to me at this point in my experience with the steel guitar.

Thanks! You have a great method of teaching and it is much appreciated.

John is the best! John is an excellent musician, extremely knowledgeable and dedicated instructor and all-around great guy. You’ll find no better teacher in the world than Professor Twang! He is the best!

I’ve been taking lessons via Skype for a while now from John and I’d like to echo what others have said on this (Steel Guitar Forum) thread.

His thoughtful and thorough approach to teaching has helped me a lot. If I was anywhere near the Bay Area I’d jump at the chance to attend this workshop.

John is dragging me, kicking and screaming, into the world of PSG. And...it’s working. Actually, the only kicking and screaming I do is in the privacy of my practice room. He’s a great teacher incredibly patient, understanding, challenging, and incredibly knowledgeable. He’s got terrific teaching materials, too.

If you are looking for a teacher and John is in your area, he is the man to see. I live about 3 hours away from John. I didn’t know of any teacher in my area. I was willing to drive to him. Instead, he found several teachers nearer to me.

He is a true educator. Not into it for the money. This man has a real desire to help people learn. I now have a teacher 45 minutes a way I can go to on a work night.

John didn’t just email me a list of teachers. He kept in contact with me until I had found the right guy. He wanted to know how it worked out, and talked to them before I did to feel them out himself. He went way past the point of doing me a favor.

Thanks for all your help and the workshop. I learned more than I realized and thanks for the online materials. The workshop was well worth the price you originally set before providing the discount. Good instruction and materials are well worth the money.

Yes, John IS the best. He’s not called Professor Twang for nothin’! He’s a great teacher, he has a great teaching method with excellent materials, and he’s a great guy.

Hey John. It’s time to make that instructional video(s). You’re an outstanding player and teacher and I would love to see you out there with the other great players. Your style of playing is certainly a step above, and your willingness to share that with us is a great contribution to the steel guitar world.

I just had my first pedal steel lesson with John McClung in response to this ad. I highly recommend John as a teacher. He has an extremely well thought out and organized lesson plan. And it is at a very great value I might add. Lots of bang for your buck.
